I love to pray Scriptures as it's a wonderful way to know that my prayers match God's will. This book has some brief chapters on prayer, and the rest of the book is a collection of Scriptures to use for particular supplications/intercessions. There was no context about using the Scriptures, just lists recommending certain verses for everything from physical health to finances to anger. There was a lot of repetition--both in categories of prayers (I would have combined a number of categories as they were so similar) and in suggested Scriptures. I acknowledge that some verses are applicable in a number of situations, but often I think other Scriptures would have been more applicable than the ones cited. On occasion, I couldn't really understand why specific verses were listed in particular categories.
So while this can be helpful in praying God's Word, I don't think it's as effective as others I have used.

Pray What God Says Christine Brooks Martin 9780692010587 Books Reviews
Anyone wanting to go deeper into UNDERSTANDING prayer will not find it here. This book would be a great review of Scripture regarding prayer. It misses the mark about practicing the presence of God which is what prayer is really about.
The author makes valid points, many that can help someone grow if they are struggling. The book assumes too much regarding the reader's position, though. Prayer is a topic that often becomes universal thus watering down the function of prayer each believer needs to grow in.
I will use the book as a supplement rather than a go-to type of book. A good concordance would be just as beneficial.
I loved the book. Title may not have been right for it. It took me forever to read. I am going to say God wanted me to read some parts of the book over and over. There where several times I would turn to the next page and it would go back to the beginning. I would have to read parts of it over and over. But God was teaching me a lesson. One I had always struggled with. Helping others in need even when they didn't deserve it. I have a step son and his wife that are mentally challenged. I want to help them but, at the same time I feel used by them. I still help them when I can but, not like God wants me to. I don't help with a cheerful heart. The book is helping me change that. I am going to try to read it again and hope this time I can read it without having to read the same page over and over.
I think each person that reads it will get something out of it. Even if it isn't how to pray.
This book, broken into prayer need categories, does indeed utilize scriptures deemed applicable by the author; Scripture verbatim is turned into prayer. It is a helpful guide, and the author describes it as a guide. That being said, if a guide is needed to shape one's prayers, other than searching the bible for one's self, this book can surely help, but googling scriptures related to your specific prayer need could probably also suffice.
I agree with the others who found this book cumbersome in lists, and light on much else. I also found the book comes written in a charismatic (mentions of speaking in tongues during a testimony, & declarations of miracles being active today) manner. Personally, theologically I am a reformed Presbyterian and such claims do not blend with my belief.
As a topical study, once you understand the premise of the book is to use verses of scripture for prayer, one will find several verses for various topics. This can be a useful tool to some, but at this point the book seems more like a reference source to bounce around in at times, than as a book to read cover to cover. Unfortunately I'm uncertain I'd use it as such as I feel there are plenty topical study bibles out there that give a broader scope than just the topics & verses the author here decided to cover.
As a collection of scripture I found hearing the word encouraging, and in this regard I can't give this book a completely negative review. There is truth that scripture is a powerful & useful tool for guiding and instructing us during prayer, and the start of the book does well in expressing that. Beyond that though I found myself ready to move on to picking up a different book to read cover to cover.
I believe praying the scriptures is extremely valuable. It assures that our prayers are in line with God's desires and gives us words when we don't know exactly what to pray. It helps us esteem God's Word above our own words. However, my brief perusal of this book (which I downloaded for b/c it was free and I assumed it would be mainly the text of excellent Scripture passages to pray) quickly revealed its smack of the "health, wealth, and prosperity" or "name it and claim it" gospel that is a misrepresentation of our God and the truly good news. The author uses phrases like "speaking what the Word says is appropriating the power of God" and "availing yourself to [sic] this prayer key can and will gain you access to a divine response." This kind of thinking reduces our relationship with God through Jesus our great high priest to the level of a rabbit's foot or incantation. God is not a genie who must come when we use the right words. Instead, He has given us His Spirit and access to the throne of Grace, which we may approach with confidence to find help in time of need. The Scripture passages in this book are very short, KJV, often taken out of context, often misapplied to situations (eg. promises made to the nation of Israel and applied, here, to each individual believer). The author does affirm some wonderful truths; she exhorts us to honor the Word and do what it says. For a more helpful treatment of this topic, I recommend "A Call to Spiritual Reformation Priorities from Paul and His Prayers" by D. A. Carson.
So while this can be helpful in praying God's Word, I don't think it's as effective as others I have used.
